We are looking for a Head of School certified Montessori Teacher with an entrepreneurial mindset who is excited about helping create a new, innovative micro-school. The position requires a trained individual with classroom experience (3-5 year old required, toddler training desired) who is comfortable taking on administrative tasks as well as working to help educate parents to be better educators for their children. The position will most likely start at 3 days a week with room to grow into a full time position.


Foxglove Montessori, a soon to-be microschool based on the Wildflower Montessori Network, welcomes applications and nominations for Head of School. The Wildflower Montessori Method is an open-source model for independent Montessori lab schools that re-envisions Montessori learning by blurring the boundary between home-schooling and institutional schooling, while broadening interactions between teachers, parents, children and the community at large.


Foxglove Montessori is a group of families working to become a non-profit community school in Midtown, Kansas City, MO that will offer year-round programs to support the needs of a variety of families. Initially, we will have a transitional classroom (18 months to 48 months) of 5-8 children, and will become a 2.5-6 Children’s House with 13-15 children, so we’re interested in both toddler and preschool teachers who have Montessori classroom experience.


As the Head of School you will be in the classroom 3 days a week and will split the time with administrative duties and parent training. You will be responsible for overseeing the operations of school programs, program staff, and parent volunteers. The Head of School will work closely with the board to direct the strategy of our school.


Qualifications for Head of School:

  • Certification in the 3-6 year Montessori classroom (required); 18-35 months (desired)
  • Ideally a teacher with several years of experience working with toddlers, preschoolers, and their parents who is passionate about sharing the method with parents and other adults.
  • One year of administrative experience (desired) 
  • Ability to work closely with colleagues, children, and parents to design and implement thoughtful and effective curriculum.
  • Additional training/experience working with toddlers welcome
  • Experience working with socioeconmoically diverse populations
  • Ability to commit to a 12 month year

We believe successful candidates will be highly qualified Montessori experts with significant experience as classroom teachers, teacher educators, or Montessori administrators, with an interest in advancing current research in Montessori. Deep knowledge of Montessori early childhood theory and practice, a commitment to engaging parents and families and a willingness to question pedagogical presumptions are essential. Teachers who have experience in partnering with parents or as teacher trainers may be especially successful in this role.
